To encourage and develop hockey on the ice ; to draw up uniform rules; to stimulate
the formation of national associations in countries in which they do not yet exist ; to
organise matches and international championships, particularly the European and
world championships, and to act, if necessary, as umpire between the affiliated couutries.

La Ligue a été fondée en 1908 sur l'initiative du Club des Patineurs de Paris, en vue de l'adoption de règles de jeu uniformes et l'organisation de matches et championnats internationaux. Le Congrès s'est tenu à Paris en 1908, à Chamonix en 1909, à Montreux en 1910, à Berlin en 1911, à Bruxelles en 1912, à St-Moritz en 1913, à Berlin en 1914, à Anvers en 1920.

The League was founded in 1908, at the instance of the Skaters'Club of Paris, with a view to the adoption of uniform rules and the organisation of matches and international championships. The last Congresses were held at Vienna in 1927 and
St. Moritz in 1928.
